China's largest online news publication Sohu.com reported one powerful weapon that the Russians do not show in parades. It can turn the tide of war. But at the same time, its appearance is not as impressive as that of tanks, anti-aircraft missile systems, multiple launch rocket systems, Intercontinental ballistic missiles. So for the unprepared viewer, this weapon will not produce the desired impression. And from the eyes of a trained viewer interested in Russian military secrets, it must be protected. Because some of these complexes in the photos show only partially. The full picture is able to provide potential opponents with invaluable information.

We are talking about electronic warfare (EW) weapons. Sohu.com mentions of the newest electronic warfare complex "Murmansk-bn", which is able to send the interference within a radius of 2 thousand kilometers. "It is necessary to understand – writes the Chinese edition – what it means for the high-tech West, where the dependence on EW has reached the point that without electronics NATO troops can not fight. One press of the launch button of such a complex will be enough to change the course of the war."

You can't argue with that. This is well understood in the US. During various exercises, us military has repeatedly tested the level of combat readiness of troops of the compounds at the level of the infantry brigades without the use of communications and high-tech electronic equipment. It turned out that in this case, American troops completely lose their combat capability. Sohu.com cites the statement of an American officer who claimed that it was easier for ancestors to defeat Nazi Germany in the absence of GPS, satellite phones and guided missiles. NATO troops have already experienced the power of Russian EW weapons: "During the exercises in the Baltic sea and military operations in the Middle East (ese pepino perdido), held from the end of last year to the beginning of this year, they were subjected to strong interference, while the source of the signal remained unknown. On radar displays of warships and aircraft, Americans flashed snowflakes. They knew that it would not be possible to identify the source of the interference, because the electronic attack does not leave traces like shell fragments, but in their hearts, they knew that only the Russians could do it."

Sohu.com notes that the Russian in the conditions of use by both parties of electronic warfare systems will be easier because the Russian army electronics introduced less. This is partly true, as Russian soldiers are not yet given electronic tablets.

However, there is another side of the problem — the weapon of electronic warfare in Russia developed much stronger than in the US. And the Americans understand this very well. So, commander of US air forces in Europe Brigadier General Frank Gorenc recognizes that achievements of Russia in the field of electronic warfare nullify all the advantages of high-tech weapons used in the armies of NATO countries. Because the latest Russian electronic weapons completely paralyze the functioning of American electronics installed on missiles, aircraft, ships, and tanks.

The commander of NATO forces in Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, looks at the problem of the American backlog in this area of military equipment just as gloomily: "Russian EW units have sky-high capabilities."

The specific reason for such a glaring backlog is well known to the former head of the EW of us Army, Laurie Bakhut: "Our main problem is that we did not fight in the conditions of suppression of communication for several decades, so we have no idea how to act in such a situation. We have no tactics and algorithm of actions, we are not prepared to conduct military operations in the absence of communication. The US does not have as extensive EW capabilities as Russia does. We have very good radio intelligence, and we can conduct wiretapping around the clock, but to put the equipment out of order — here our capabilities and up to one-tenth of the similar indicators of the Russian army do not reach."

A new generation of EW has been created in Russia. It does not use blunt suppression of enemy signals by high power radiation, requiring a large set of antennas to overlap the entire frequency range. Modern means of detection and digital processing allow you to receive an exact copy of the enemy signals. In this case, a similar signal is sent in response, in which, however, the most important parameters are changed. A false signal is returned to the enemy in a distorted form. That leads to disruption of electronic circuits. This counteraction is called "non-energy interference."

Russia's achievements in the field of EW are based on a lot of research and development carried out in the country. Some of them ended with the receipt of finished products adopted for service. And this part is very significant — two dozen complexes, joined the army in this decade: "Borisoglebsk-2", "Allergic", "Mercury-BM", "Infauna", "Krasuha-4", "Moskva-1", "Impersonator", "Lorandite-M", "Leer-3", "Grove", "Loess", "Magnesium-EW", "Box-21", "Khibiny", "Vitebsk", "the Murmansk-bn", "Samarkand", "Dunmore", "Valeria", "Rant-2C".

The Chinese edition, which mentioned the complex "Murmansk-bn", greatly underestimated its capabilities. This coastal complex conducts radio reconnaissance, interception of enemy signals and their suppression throughout the short-wave range at a range of not up to 2000 km, and 5000 km. "Murmansk-BM" is located on seven KAMAZ vehicles. The antenna system is mounted on four 32-meter supports in 72 hours.

In some EW systems, there is a top secret. Such is, for example, adopted in 2016 "Samarkand". Not only its characteristics but also the appointment was not officially disclosed. The complex is implemented in the Baltic fleet, in the Kaliningrad region, in a number of other regions of Russia, as well as in Belarus.

It must be said that the field of military radio engineering, dealing with the problems of electronic warfare, is developing very dynamically. Accordingly, new systems are beginning to replace the previous ones at intervals, insignificant by the standards of the duration of operation of military systems. The famous complex "Krasukha-4", which is now operated in Syria, in the foreseeable future will begin to be replaced by the complex "Divnomorye", which was adopted last year.
And "Divnomorye" replaces simultaneously two mutually complementary complex — "Moscow-1", carrying out radio reconnaissance in a radius of 300 km, and "Krasukha-4" of the same range, which creates interference effects on the electronic systems of the enemy. Complex "Divnomorye" collects information within a radius of 300 km about the sources of electromagnetic radiation of the enemy, which include aircraft, homing missiles, radar, mobile and stationary air defense systems, radio transmitters and other objects that emit radio waves. In this case, the analysis of signals, direction finding, and classification of their sources.

On the basis of the received data on electronic systems of the opponent, there is their suppression by means of address hindrances. At the same time on your system working in the range of the "Divnogorie", the complex is not affected. It is designed to cover command posts, groups of troops, military, industrial and administrative facilities.

"Divnomorye", as well as "Krasukha-4" is capable of "blinding" not only fighters, bombers and helicopters of the enemy, but also ground radars, AWACS planes and even military satellites in low orbit. Various Russian electronic warfare systems are able to solve a variety of problems. Among them, the suppression of the GPS satellite signal, determining the coordinates of the location of cell phones of interest numbers for the purpose of applying a missile or artillery strike, blocking remote detonators of artillery ammunition, detection and tracking in passive mode of air targets, protection of aircraft from missiles "ground-air" and "air-air" and much more.
